Hippopotamus Humphrey Killed His Owner Marius Els

It was shocking to believe that Marius Els, a farmer who owns 400 acre farm in South Africa, was killed and submerge in the river for long period of time. Cause of his death: strangled and bitten by his own pet consider him as ‘his own son’ for seven years called Humphrey, the hippopotamus.

Humphrey was five-month old when he was adopted by Mr. Els and grown into 1,200 kg robust pet after seven years. The relationship between them was so special that declared Mr. Els that the hippo is like a son to him and like a human being.

They have grown deeply with their relationship in his own acre that everyday was a bonding time together anywhere in the farm. Mr. Els made a special lake for Humphrey where the hippo play time in the water while growing-up, and is part of his natural world from land and submerge in the water. When Humphrey grown into a young male adult, Mr. Els used to sit at his back like riding a horse.

Their togetherness for years was an excellent example of like man and dog relationship. But for Mr. Els relationship is far more than that. He declared that they have special relationship that others don’t understand. A unique relationship with the most dangerous animal in the world.

But last Saturday, the special relationship ended in tragedy. Mr. Els body was mutilated and had been underwater for long period of time.

Hippos are considered human killer with its large canine teeth as their weapon. They immediately killed its prey without any reason or provocation. They can run with high speed to chase its victims.

Animal instinct is the most dangerous side that can penetrate even with a bond of relationships.
